Sophie Whiting

Sophie Whiting is a Senior Lecturer in politics at the University of Bath. Sophie’s research interests include processes of conflict transformation and post-war political institutions - with a particular focus on Northern Ireland. She is also interested in the role of women and gender within conflict transformation and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda / UNSCR 1325.

 

Previous research includes several political party membership surveys (including the DUP, UUP and Alliance in Northern Ireland), the influence of political violence and ‘spoiler’ groups within peace processes and the representation of women within formal institutions following conflict. Most recently, Sophie was part of the research team involved in the ESRC funded project Beyond Unionism and Nationalism in Northern Ireland: Electors, Voters and Party Members.
